Breweries and Wineries in Bay Harbor, Northern Michigan

Among other things, Northern Michigan is known for its pristine fresh water. Not only does this mean fun in the sun this summer, it also means the local beer and wine are top notch! Here are a few breweries and wineries near Bay Harbor that you should add to your bucket list.

Bay View Wine Trail

The 10 wineries that make up the Bay View Wine Trail are located in and around the greater Petoskey area, not far from Little Traverse Bay. They’re part of a larger “Tip of the Mitt American Viticultural Area.” Most of the wineries are family-friendly and some even have a brewery in addition to the winery. Grab your friends and add these to your summer list for sure! The Bay View Wine Trail includes local favorites such as Mackinaw Trail Winery, Walloon Lake Winery, and Petoskey Farms.

Wineries of Old Mission

According to MyNorth, nine wineries comprise the Wineries of Old Mission. All of them are located north of Traverse City on the thin, water-surrounded strip of land called the Old Mission Peninsula. Located within 5 miles of one another, each of these wineries offers a diverse range of tasting rooms. Set up a day of fun for you and some friends, but be sure to designate a driver.

Petoskey Brewing

You can learn about a great part of Northern Michigan history at Petoskey Brewing. According to Petoskey Brewing, the building known, as the “Old Brewery” was first completed in 1898 and was used to brew Petoskey Sparkle beer until 1915. Since closing in 1915, the brewery building has served as retail shops, as warehousing and perhaps even as a goat barn. It wasn’t until 2012 that there was a complete renovation. You’ll want to experience this historic landmark.

Stormcloud Brewing Company

This brand new brewery was just voted Michigan’s Best New Brewery by MLIVE. After breaking ground in January 2017, the beer began flowing early this year at Stormcloud Brewing Company’s new production brewery, located on the east side of the city of Frankfort. This facility houses a 20-barrel brewhouse with the capacity to brew 4,500 barrels annually. Tours will begin June 23 – mark your calendar!

With its direct proximity to Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan and its small-town charm, there’s nothing about Bay Harbor that isn’t uniquely Michigan. And it’s a great place to experience all that the area has to offer, especially the local wineries and breweries.

Located along five miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, Bay Harbor is a coastal resort community that offers a great place to stay for a day, a week or a lifetime.
