It’s the most wonderful time of the year! There are so many festive events happening in Northern Michigan this December that it can be difficult to decide where to start. We went through our list of our favorite things to do here in Michigan come the holiday season, and picked a few of our favorites.
Annual Madrigal Show
The Petoskey High School students return to Stafford’s Perry Hotel for this esteemed holiday tradition. Listen to Old English Christmas Carols sung by the students dressed in period costumes as you enjoy a four-course meal provided by Stafford’s! Occurring on the 10th, and the 11th of December, the shows will be $45 per guest. A day show running on the 16th will be $15 for adults, and $10 for children.
The Christmas Schooner
The Little Traverse Civic Theater will be performing this classic Christmas play December 7th through December 10th, and December 14th through December 16th. Based on a true story that took place in the 19th century, it tells of a Great Lakes Schooner determined to deliver fir trees from the Upper Peninsula to the German immigrants in Chicago. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children, and $12 overall for the Sunday matinee.
Gingerbread House Decorating
Meet your friends at The Inn at Bay Harbor on December 9th to decorate a gingerbread house worthy of the Gingerbread Man! Candy and icing decorations are provided, so all that you need to bring is your imagination! There will be 50 houses in total, so houses will be limited to two per child. Each house is $20.
CTAC School of Ballet Presents: The Nutcracker
What are the holidays without this classic? Students from the Crooked Tree Art Center will reenact the story of how a young girl receives a nutcracker and all the magic that comes with it for Christmas. There will be two matinees, on December 16 & 17 with tickets being $15 for adults and $5 for students. The evening show will run $20 for adults and $10 for students, and reserved seats will run $50 total.
New Year’s Eve Dinner at the Inn at Bay Harbor
What’s better than ringing in the New Year with a four-course meal and a sparkling wine toast surrounded by the elegant settings of the Inn at Bay Harbor? This intimate dinner consists of tenderloin filet, foie gras, and chocolate napoleon. Reservations are highly recommended.
