Top Three Winter Activities in Northern Michigan!

Early December in Northern Michigan means that there’s snow, and snow means adding more activities to the schedule-and here, there are things for everyone to do! We picked our top three things to do in the area when the temperature drops, so grab your coats and go!

Snowshoeing

Michigan has over 4.6 million acres of natural land to explore, so why not explore them! Easy for both adults and small children to pick up, snowshoeing makes it easy to see Michigan in a whole new light-or at least a whole new season. Even if you’ve seen a place a million times, you’ll be surprised as to how different it looks when it’s covered in layers of pristine snow. A favorite local pastime, you’re sure to love it!

Skiing and Snowboarding

With the Winter Olympics coming up in February, everyone will be watching the skiing. Did you know that modern snowboarding is said to have been invented here in Michigan? Its no wonder world-class ski resorts like Boyne Mountain are also found in the area.

A tip: The SnowSports Academy that Boyne Mountain offers is able to help even the most beginner skier start sliding down the hills in no time, and the way that their classes are divided up, everyone’s skill level can be catered to. Kids who know the ropes and slopes can join a more advanced kids’ class while grownups can take a one-on-one clinic course to refine their skills.

Ice Fishing

Whether you see ice fishing as a social event or use it for quiet contemplation, make sure your coolers are big enough for all of the fish that you’ll catch! If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to pull up bluegill, perch, walleye, northern pike, and crappie. There are many local guides in the area to show you the ropes. And don’t forget your camera!
